A few years ago I took a series of close-up photographs of gum leaves with shadows. I had set the leaf up on a bench on a sheet of white card to block out any distracting background and to catch the hard shadows. The light was from a natural source of morning light streaming through a window. Interestingly the deep shadow sometimes combined to create other forms.
The image used below looked a bit like a snail, but I was interested in combining the image in a composite 4 x 4 grid to look at the variations that could be made with the positive and negative light and shade that had been created. I was thinking fabric patterns here...
While the two groups of 'revolving leaves' below are scans of digital prints that I have and represent an idea rather than a good photograph, I was toying with giving an inanimate object the illusion of having a life of its own...a bit like an animation really....and the changing shadow patterns was interesting. It could be an idea that I could pursue more seriously.
